Overview

California Bar and Grill, located at 699 Mountain View Rd in Reading, Pennsylvania, offers a classic bar and grill experience tailored for casual diners and sports enthusiasts alike. This spot thrives on its diverse wing selection, including standout flavors such as the tangy Santa Fe and intriguing maple bacon BBQ, though some reviews note the latter leans toward a sweet honey mustard profile rather than a traditional maple-infused sauce. The wings come with a range of sauces and dry rubs, catering to various palates—whether you prefer creamy textures or light buttery finishes. Chili cheese and cola also highlight the menu, rounding out a quintessential American bar and grill fare.

The atmosphere at California Bar and Grill is designed for comfort and camaraderie. Multiple TV screens adorn the walls, making it a prime location for catching live sports events, which naturally draws a crowd looking to relax with a cold beverage and hearty eats. The space balances being lively during games with quieter times suitable for a laid-back lunch or dinner. It appeals mainly to local patrons and visitors seeking an approachable, no-fuss place to enjoy wings, share nachos, or sample various bar snacks.

Customer feedback offers a nuanced view of the overall experience. Service quality can vary, with some praising attentive and friendly staff, such as Julia and another efficient server noted for ensuring guests’ needs are met promptly. Others mention occasional lapses, though gestures like generous tipping reflect an understanding of the service dynamics. The food generally receives positive marks, especially for portion sizes—nachos can easily satisfy a group—and the well-executed wing flavors. However, some guests express mild concerns regarding certain sauces or pricing on appetizers, suggesting there is room for fine-tuning to meet all expectations.

In summary, California Bar and Grill is a solid choice for anyone seeking flavorful wings in a setting that doubles as a lively sports bar and a comfortable grill. Its location in Reading makes it accessible for those who want to combine dining with game watching, while the menu’s array of sauced and dry-rubbed wings holds appeal for wing lovers searching for variety. Whether stopping by for an all-you-can-eat wing night or enjoying a shared plate with friends, the atmosphere and offerings invite patrons to settle in and savor a slice of casual Americana.

Not bad. Wing sauce is extra creamy. The maple bacon BBQ wings had zero BBQ on them and tasted more like a sweet honey mustard BBQ not maple, they were a yellow color (i would have expected a more....brownish BBQ color). The mild wings had zero sauce on them i guess sine they butter the sauce it just all melted/ran off the wings but the buttery flavor at the bottom of the basket was good. I like light sauce so this didn't bother me. The BBQ wings were very tangy. Waitress/bartender didn't respond to one thank you that was given to her. She forgot about our salt and pepper but was standing with a gentleman chatting multiple times in between serving other people in the midst of forgetting our salt and pepper. We still tipped her about 45% of our bill despite the service for the fact that she did say she was new at the beginning of us arriving.

Went here for the first time to have All You Can Eat Wings. Wings were good but be careful about them giving your fries with them as that is what fills you up! Lots of flavors and both sauce and dry rubs. Service is very friendly and location is clean. Tons of TV's on the wall so catching a big game here is easy! Really enjoyed it and looking forward to coming back another time.

Food was delicious, service was good. There was only one other table and they were super loud over a football game... I get it, that's a place people go to watch the game, but it wasn't an Eagles game so I wasn't really expecting it. Not the restaurant's fault though.... My only complaint was the prices. We got the boom boom shrimp appetizer for $11 and it was like 5 shrimp

Had lunch here three other day. Quiet and not many people, but our server was fantastic and very efficient. Good service from her all around. We got cheese fries, wings and the nachos to share. All food was excellent. The nachos were enough to feed 5 people! We got the Santa Fe wing sauce which is amazing. We hadn't been to CBAG in so long and after this lunch date, we decided to make sure we come back more often. My husband likes to go there to watch games and have a few beers. Overall, good experience.
